Matt Fehl is in his 26th year as a school band director and second as the head band director at Klein High School in Klein, TX. Prior to teaching at Klein High Mr. Fehl taught one year at Klein Cain High school, 20 years at Doerre Intermediate School (Klein), two years at Oak Ridge High School in Conroe, TX and one year at Bammel Middle School in Spring, TX. Mr. Fehl holds a Bachelor and Masters degree from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX where he studied Conducting with Dr. Matthew McInturf and Trumpet with Mr. Randal Adams. During Mr. Fehl’s tenure at Doerre, the Symphonic Band was selected as a National Wind Band Honors National Finalist three times, multiple Best-in-Class Awards at festivals, consecutive Sweepstakes ratings at Texas UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluations, and as part of the wind and percussion sections of the Doerre Full Orchestra been selected as Texas Music Educators Association Honor Full Orchestra Finalist three times, and was named the TMEA Junior High Honor Full Orchestra for 2019. In 2014, wind and percussion students from the Symphonic Band performed with the Doerre Full Orchestra as part of the 68th Annual Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, Illinois and in 2017 the Doerre Symphonic Band performed at the Music For All National Concert Band Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana. In his first year at Klein, the band has already earned Finalist performances, Best-in-Class award, and earned a spot in the Area F 6A Marching Band contest. Mr. Fehl is also an active professional trumpet player, adjudicator and clinician throughout the state and holds memberships in the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas Bandmasters Association - Region 9 Representative, the Texas Music Adjudicators Association, and Phi Beta Mu (Alpha Chapter) International Bandmaster Fraternity. He, his wife Julie, and their two children Riley (sophomore trombone player) and Raegan (seventh grade flute player) are residents of Klein, TX. When Mr. Fehl isn’t conducting or teaching, you can probably find him camping with his family…preferably in the mountains!
